Steven Chu was born on February 28, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He was the former Minister of Energy, U.S. and the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics. 

He got his Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Rochester in 1970. 

In 1978, he served as director of the American Physical Society.

He was awarded the King Faisal International Prize in 1993, 

and the Arthur and Sherlock Award and William Meggs Award in 1994.

1997, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. 

He was elected as a foreign academician Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on June 5, 1998. 

On December 15, 2008, he was appointed Minister of Energy by the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
